* The estimated Sequestration Impact is the aggregate projected amount for only FY 2013 that sequestration will reduce federal funding for academic research and development (R&D) at the universities listed on this page. These institutions are members of the Association of American Universities, the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities and The Science Coalition and do not represent all R&D activity in the state. The estimated aggregate state impact was calculated using cuts of 5.0 percent and 7.8 percent for non-defense agencies and defense agencies respectively (as estimated by the Office of Management and Budget in its March 1, 2013 report to Congress) applied to the fiscal year (FY) 2011 R&D expenditures reported by the listed institutions and published in the National Science Foundation, National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics Higher Education Research and Development Survey for FY2011 (released in 2012). The sequester, part of the Budget Control Act of 2011, remains in effect through 2021 unless Congress acts to amend or repeal it.
