Stimulus funds lung cancer research

Federal stimulus money will help pay for a two-year research study of African-Americans diagnosed with lung
David Carbone, professor of medicine, cell and developmental biology and cancer biology at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, has been awarded nearly $1 million to study genetic variations among minorities with non-small cell lung cancer.
An additional grant of more than $700,000 will be used by Carbone and Pierre Massion, associate professor of medicine and cancer biology, to measure proteins in the blood of cancer patients in hopes of eventually developing a simple blood.
